I thought some of you might like it, and get to know me a little more... ;)
I went to H.S. at Sparks High in Sparks, NV. I was then L. Regina Gill, I was an adopted child, those who knew me and still know me from then, know I had quite the troubled upbringing. I am now divorced and upon my divorce, I was allowed to re-claim my birth name and that is what Thornton is, my birth name.
I didn't graduate from Sparks even though my picture can still be found in the Senior Class year book for 83-84. I actually ended up graduating from Wooster, after having to leave Sparks in the middle of the year, because I left home, yup twice, the first time I was only 13 and ran to the hills, yup pun intended, of Mt. Rose where I froze my feet to twice it's size, came back down, with my partner in crime a girl Irene brought back from Brasil with us, we stayed with a family, who finally turned us into child services, and had my ass sent back to Irene, she of course was of age, and didn't have to go back, they set her free and loose in the good 'ol US of A. Then I left again, at 17 the night after being chased around the house by a mad woman with a butcher knife in her hand. That's when I decided to hide out in the back parking lot of Sparks High, and my friend the next day took me to her Mom's, they lived in a Trailer Park in Sun Valley, she was kind enough to let me stay with them, and that summer was the best I ever had in my 4 years of H.S., it was truly the Summer of Love, and the most I got to hang out with my pals and friends, but of course I had to ruin that with my drama and big mouth, and to compound it all, he cheated on me with a girl a year older than myself.
After staying with a friend's Mom for a few months, who was a foster Mom, I ended up having to leave there because of drama, and went to live in Washoe County, in believe it or not a girls home, named none other than "Regina Hall".
Something no one probably ever knew about meek looking, but rebel like little Reggie, if I could have gotten away with it, I would have colored my hair blue, or put a white streak down the side. I liked punk music, country music, and rock n roll.
I also go by Lainie now, as that is my first name and the name my "real" Mother gave me. Yes I have met her! And it's as though she was never gone!
My best friends were Tony Gresham and Sandy Templin, and still are. I had 2 serious boyfriends one lasted a little longer than the other. Joseph Plaisted (yes I still remember your name - and I haven't had a yearbook in 10 yrs; do you remember the wedding in the park? me in my blue/white ren dress and borrowed veil sang "The Rose" and you sang "You decorated my Life" and our friend played the preacher! ah yes first love! ain't it grand?) and James Parker, the country boy i dated on the rebound, who tried to teach me how to drive in his pick up truck. I hung out with the ROTC crowd, they were my buddies, we were also known as the "A Team" even if we didn't have a Mr. T ;)
I've been around a bit since H.S., lived in Carson City for 6 months, then moved to San Francisco, CA and lived there for 10 yrs before, making the fatalistic mistake of following my ex to his home country of Chile, SA. Once I managed to get my toosh out of there 4 yrs later, and humbled but still the rebel I've always been, I came to MN, with my 2 daughters. I'm in love, been together for almost 7 years now, and we manage.
